Academic HealthPlans Partners With Gorilla Logic to Scale AI-Enabled Engineering

Artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities for companies to accelerate product development, but scaling those capabilities requires more than adding new tools. Academic HealthPlans (AHP), a provider of student health and wellness consulting and plan administration, is partnering with Gorilla Logic to modernize its technology infrastructure and build a more scalable approach to software engineering.

The multi-year partnership will focus on strengthening AHP’s core technology platform, improving software delivery and establishing a more measurable model for product development and customer service. AHP is part of the Brown & Brown Team and has spent nearly three decades supporting colleges and universities across the United States.

“AI creates an opportunity to fundamentally improve how we operate and how we serve our clients, but the goal is bigger than simply introducing new technology,” said Terry Lyons, CEO of Academic HealthPlans.

The initiative comes as AHP invests in the technology, data and engineering capabilities needed to address increasingly complex institutional requirements while bringing new capabilities to market faster.

The first phase of the collaboration has included an AI-enabled assessment of AHP’s existing technology and engineering environment. The process combines AI-assisted analysis with hands-on engineering expertise to identify areas where modernization could have the greatest impact.

The broader program will introduce governed AI-enabled engineering workflows, shared technical knowledge and a framework for measuring software delivery performance. Metrics will provide visibility into development velocity, reliability and predictability, helping teams assess how their engineering processes perform over time.

Gorilla Logic will also contribute its Construct™ engineering system, which brings together reusable expertise, reference architectures, accelerators and established delivery practices.

For Gorilla Logic CEO Drew Naukam, the partnership is about combining AHP’s specialized industry knowledge with an engineering model designed to support the company’s operational requirements.

“AI can increase the speed of software development, but enterprise-grade technology still requires governance, sound engineering practices and experienced judgment,” Naukam said.

The approach reflects a broader distinction between experimenting with AI and integrating it into enterprise software development. While AI can support faster engineering workflows, AHP and Gorilla Logic are also emphasizing governance, technical standards and measurable delivery outcomes.

Together, the companies aim to give engineering teams greater autonomy, make software delivery more predictable and make innovation easier to scale across the organization.

The initiative is also expected to support AHP’s use of data and AI to generate deeper insights for the colleges and universities it serves. The companies have not disclosed specific financial targets, productivity benchmarks or a detailed implementation timeline.

“Technology is increasingly central to how we help institutions navigate the complexity of student health,” Lyons said. “This partnership is an investment in where that experience goes next.”

Founded in 1998, AHP provides customized student health benefit programs and administrative services in collaboration with insurance carriers, claims administrators, provider networks and other partners. Gorilla Logic provides AI-native product and platform engineering, AI agents, workflow automation, AI-enabled software delivery and enterprise integration services.
