‘First Mover on Brunswick Port Expansion’

Share

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has recently announced a significant expansion of its strategic terminal and processing network. The company has entered into a 20-year lease agreement with the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), with options to extend up to 30 years. This move will see an upgrade and enlargement of the Brunswick facilities, enhancing the scope and scale of Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s US Southeast operations.

Lasse Kristoffersen, CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “Our growth in Brunswick reaffirms our commitment to being the preferred supply chain partner for North American automotive, equipment, and breakbulk customers. We are proud to provide market-leading end-to-end logistics services.”

GPA Board Chairman Kent Fountain also expressed excitement over the partnership, saying, “We value our longstanding relationship with Wallenius Wilhelmsen and look forward to this new phase of service. The efficiencies of their Brunswick operation will ensure world-class reliability for our shared customers.”

The Brunswick expansion solidifies Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s position as the go-to partner for North American customers, as it adds to a network of terminals, processing centers, and services for vehicles, construction equipment, and more across the region.

Enhancements to the existing terminal and auto vehicle processing center in Brunswick are part of the expansion plans. Additionally, a new equipment processing center (EPC) will be established to store, customize, assemble, and distribute machinery for equipment OEMs and their dealers. These state-of-the-art facilities will provide customers with efficient and safe services, without the need to transport products to off-site locations.

Mike Hynekamp, Chief Operating Officer of Logistics Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, highlighted the benefits of the upgraded facilities, noting, “Our facilities are designed to provide factory-like conditions for working on customers’ products, setting us apart from traditional on-port settings.”

GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch also commented on the expansion, stating, “We are pleased to welcome the additional business from Wallenius Wilhelmsen to Colonel’s Island Terminal. This development will further solidify our position as the nation’s premier gateway for carriers handling autos and heavy machinery.”
