Driving in Fremont, California, can be risky due to all the reckless drivers on the road. A recent analysis of car accident statistics took a closer look at dangers on local roads.
How Many Car Accidents Happen in Fremont Annually?
From 2018 to 2023, California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) recorded an average of 806 involving serious injuries in Fremont each year. The system also noted a trend of elevated crash rates since 2020.
Fortunately, the injuries suffered from these collisions have decreased from their pre-pandemic levels, but more deaths have occurred. There has been an average of 11 fatalities caused by automobile accidents in Fremont each year.
A County-Wide Issue
Unfortunately, Bay Area residents know that Fremont isn’t the only dangerous area to drive. All across Alameda County, busy areas like Hayward, Livermore, Berkley, and Oakland also have high numbers of car accidents each year.
According to California’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), Alameda County had the 9th most car accidents in the state in 2023, with 6,600 accidents involving death or serious injuries, down from 6,778 in 2022. Of that total, there were only 68 fatalities in 2023, as opposed to 111 fatal accidents in 2022.
Hit-And-Run Victims
Sadly, hit-and-run cases are an all-too-frequent occurrence in Freemont as well. The reckless drivers flee the scene, leaving the victims hoping that someone will call and report the accident.
Unfortunately, the tragedy doesn’t end there. These victims will face the financial hardship of repairing damaged vehicles and medical bills. In many cases, drivers responsible for hit-and-run accidents are never found, so they can’t be charged when their victims are left dead or injured.
From 2018 to 2023, there have been an average of 45 hit-and-run accidents that carry felony charges every year.
